Gregory “Brownie” Eugene Brown

Gregory Eugene Brown passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning at Community Hospital, Anderson, IN, with his daughter, Michelle Cripe at his side.
Gregory was born at St. John’s Hickory Memorial Hospital in Anderson, IN. He attended Anderson Community Schools and graduated from Anderson Senior High School in 1968. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and, upon returning from service, he was employed by the City of Anderson.
Gregory was later employed by Guide Corporation, a division of General Motors, until his retirement. He was an active member of UAW 663, where he held the position of Trustee for several years.
Gregory was a proud volunteer with Emergency Management until his health prevented him from continued participation.
Old westerns, music, crossword puzzles, and basketball were some of his favorite pastimes. He was an avid bowler and participated in many leagues. Gregory enjoyed family gatherings where he always presented his “signature hams”.
Greg was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church and served as president of the Senior Choir. His first and foremost love was as a member of The Men’s Chorus under the directorship of William “Teddy” Patterson.
He was a friend to many and dearly loved by all who came to know him.
Gregory leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Michelle (Scott) Cripe, Indianapolis, IN, Teresa (George Johnson,II) White, Stone Mountain, GA. A son, Jeremy Brown, New Castle, IN. His sister, whom he affectionately called “Baby Sister”, Sheryl Chappell-Leavell, Anderson, IN. Three grand-children, Carrie (Chuck) Pennington, Taylor and Cameron White.
Two step-sisters, Lorene Nave-Craig, Ellenwood, GA, Mary Nave-Sembly, Anderson, IN. Three step-brothers, James Nave, Sr., Ed Nave and Tommy Nave, all of Anderson, IN. Sister-In-Law, Rhonda Mansur, Albany, GA. Brother-In-Law Dean Leavell, I, Anderson, IN.
One aunt, Barbara (Kenneth)Walker, Houston, TX. One uncle Donald “Tookie” (Sophia) Streaty, Anderson, IN.
Former wives, Maria Haynes (mother of his daughters), Anderson, IN, and Adrienne Brown, Atlanta, GA.
Special friends, Peggy Smith, Ollie Dixon, Robert and Donald Jones, Alisha and Billy Harris, Joe Cochran, Iris and Teddy Patterson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gregory was preceded by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Roy (Dorothy Streaty) Chappell, and Mr. & Mrs. Eugene (Berniece Nave) Brown. His brother, Stewart M. Brown, Sr., and a sister, Barbara Marie Dobbins.
Visitation on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and two hours prior to Noon service on Friday at New Hope United Methodist Church, 1503 Rev. J.T. Menifee St., Anderson, IN, with the Reverend Ray Wilkins, Sr. Pastor, officiating.
Interment – East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, IN.
