Ms. Katie M. “Sis” McClendon, 85, passed away May 10, 2014
in Augusta, Georgia.
Ms. McClendon was born September 28, 1928 in Montgomery, Alabama. She attended Booker T. Washington High School in Montgomery, AL. Ms. Katie McClendon was a resident of Anderson for 61 years and was last employed by Teter’s Private Nursing Home for 29 years as a nursing assistant retiring at the age of 71. She loved the Lord, her family and friends and enjoyed fishing and gardening. She was a member of Celebration Church at Arrow Heights where she was an active participant of the Community Outreach Team.
Ms. McClendon leaves to cherish her memories, four sons: James (Kathy) Harris of Anderson, IN; Rickey McClendon of Garland, TX; Danny Thomas of Stone Mountain, GA; Octavia McClendon of Dallas, TX; four daughters: Vicki (Johnny) McClendon-Wiley of Montgomery, AL; Eileen (Reeder) Thomas-Grant of Lawrenceville, GA; Annette McClendon of Muncie, IN; Sheila (Earl) McClendon-Hoover of Augusta, GA ; 19 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who will miss her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nelson “Jimmy” Thomas Jr. and Josephine Pettiford; all of her siblings, brothers, James “Pete” Thomas; Ruben “Bute” Thomas; Eddie “Bud” Thomas; Willie “Brother” Thomas; Herbert Thomas, Sr. sisters, Minnie “Sister” Thomas-Good; Callie Thomas-Timble; Kiziah “Sug” Thomas-Collier; grandparents, Nelson (Kiziah) Thomas, Sr. and Willie (Callie) Pettiford.
