Robert James Weatherly, 54, entered into eternal rest on May 11, 2015 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer.  He was surrounded by a host of his family at his bedside as he made his transition.

He was born August 7, 1960, in Anderson, Indiana to Charles E. Weatherly, Sr. and Mikki Lewis.

Robert was raised in both Wallace Temple A.M.E. Zion Church and Park Road Church of God.  Most recently he resumed his spiritual walk, serving his Lord and Savior at Wallace Temple A.M.E. Zion Church.

Robert started his education within the Anderson Community School System, graduating from Madison Heights High School. Following high school graduation, he served in the United States Air Force. He continued his educational quest by receiving his undergraduate degree from Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, Arizona and his Juris Doctor Degree from Ohio Northern University College of Law, Ada, Ohio.

Following graduation, Robert resided in Plainfield, New Jersey and began his legal career at the Resolution Trust Company.  While at the RTC, Robert played a major role in the formation of his wife’s firm, Law Offices of Joy R. Spriggs.  Robert honed his legal skills following the RTC with law firms both large and small including Sumners, George and Dortch, P.C., Santoro and Santoro, P.C. and Law Office of William Thomas.  Armed with years of legal experience, Robert formed the firm of Spriggs and Weatherly, PC in Easton, Pennsylvannia.  Following the growth of his family and the desire to maximize the tender years of his children, Robert chose to share in the growth of the Plainfield office.  Working with the office and clients, Robert enjoyed the pleasure of being able to assist people, some of which grew to become close friends.  During the later portion of his legal career, he elected to accept complex legal projects in New York City with various firms including Sullivan and Cromwell and Quinn Emmanuel.

As a pastime, Robert enjoyed playing golf including his membership in the NJ Ball Strikers, fishing, performing home improvement projects, supporting the local youth football team, Plainfield Vikings, and watching football. Despite residing in Jets and Giants country, Robert remained a loyal Indianapolis Colts fan.  Another of his greatest pleasures was coaching numerous youth sports including various AAU basketball leagues, Our Lady of Fatima Basketball and most recently supporting and coaching the first known Youth Baseball League to Honor the professional Negro Baseball League players.

Robert was blessed with the gift of unconditional love for his family and friends.  While enjoying a vacation with his family and friends in his hometown, Anderson, Indiana, Robert learned of his diagnosis.  From the first day of diagnosis, failure was NOT AN OPTION, but preserving every moment became his life’s mission.  Being in Anderson allowed Robert the pleasure of being surrounded by his family, renewing his motorcycle riding passion as a proud member of the “Brothers of the Wheel” and exhibiting his property renovation talents.

Robert’s passing creates a great loss. He will be greatly missed by his devoted and loving wife of over 23 years, Joy Spriggs-Weatherly; his children,  Janna (Lindsey) Brown, Ashley Weatherly, Robert J.S. Weatherly, Devon C.S.
